                                                        (AB 372)

Historically when an individual was convicted of a domestic violence offense, they were ordered to attend a 52 week
batterer intervention program, regardless of supervision status, risk level or assessed needs. Assembly Bill 372 (AB372)
created a pilot program allowing Santa Barbara County (along with Napa, San Luis Obispo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and
                                                                             st
Yolo Counties) to use alternative batterer intervention programs. On July 1 , the Santa Barbara County Probation
Department began using a model that incorporates the individual’s assessed risk for future reoffending and identified
criminogenic needs when referring to batter intervention programs. The two domestic violence programs selected as
part of the AB372 pilot are:

STOP Domestic Violence Program integrates innovative interventions and client-centered guidelines to treat male
domestic violence offenders. The curriculum is a 26 week psychoeducational format which includes skills, training
exercises, articles, video clips, handouts, homework, and other resources that push participants to examine the role of
shame and aggression and provides tools to manage the powerful relationship issues with which they struggle.

Streets2Schools (S2S) provides a Domestic Violence Behavior Intervention Program (S2S DV-BIP) online. Clients can
meet their weekly program attendance requirements in the face of job restrictions, travel restrictions, housing
restrictions, or in the event they are in a location that crosses county and or state jurisdictions.
